Martinez VA Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic: Beginning in September on Tuesday’s at 1:30, Michael will be leading Yoga and Mindfulness classes for Veterans with traumatic brain injury at the CREC (Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care) in Martinez, CA. If you or someone you know is a veteran and suffers from a TBI, please call the Martinez VA for more information about these and other healing classes.
Private Lessons: If you are an athlete looking to train using Yoga as your foundation please click here. Privates are 1-1/2 hours long and include breathing and relaxation exercises along with traditional postures. Each session has time included for consultation on creating a personalized Yoga routine and life-style.
Yoga nidra and meditation: Yoga nidra, meaning,”sleep of the Yogis,” is a deeply relaxing and Consciousness-cultivating practice using various concentration techniques. Its aim is to completely relax the body and mind so our inner witness becomes dominant in our awareness. Once in that state we are able to see ourselves and the world around us with a Heart full of wisdom and joy and a Mind free of judgement. Sacred texts and practices: We will study The Upanishads, The Dhammapada, The Bhagavad Git, The Yoga Sutras, The Prophet, Black Elk Speaks, et al and reflect on our own practices in comparison. Location, time and cost TBA. Please see our Book List for further selections.
Eat, Sleep, Yoga with Diane Valentine & Michael and Sararak Sapiro
Saturday, May 14th at Yoga Movement in Walnut Creek, CA.
We will start the workshop with an hour of Yummy Yoga with Diane Valentine. Diane will introduce the feel-good movements of Feldenkrais and blend them into a delightful and dynamic yoga practice including standing poses, balancing, twists and forward bends to cleanse our organs and to prepare our bodies for a delightful rest and delicious feast.
Yoga Nidra is a total relaxation experience for the whole body, mind and spirit. Lying down on the mat we are led into a 30 minute guided concentration and relaxation exercise, following sensations, the breath, thoughts, feelings and finally the expression of joy in being present. There will be a short dharma discussion on our experience of rest after the Yoga Nidra.
This workshop will also include a home-cooked Traditional Thai meal, with just the right herbs and spices to fit the Spring season.
In order to prepare for the meal all participants must pre- register by May 7th.
Introduction to Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy: Ayurveda is the world’s oldest, most practical and balanced system of whole health care and wellness. Yoga is one of the world’s oldest paths for stilling the mind and opening the heart. Both Yoga and Ayurveda come from the same source and are the pathways for going deeper into practice and our understanding of who we are. This workshop introduces the History and Philosophy of both Yoga and Ayurveda as sister sciences and practices. The intention is for the students to have a fuller understanding of Yoga as a whole spiritual, mental and physical system and to turn this theory into action through practical Experience.
Thai herbs and cooking: These on-going workshops includes a guided tour of special Thai herbs and their medicinal properties from an Ayurvedic perspective, ingredients and instructions on preparation of various Thai meals. Learn more on our Thai Cooking page.

Dharma and Fun! A 10-12 day retreat and cultural experience in Northern Thailand. Each year we invite a new Yoga or Buddhist teacher to come lead the practice while MHY leads the group into local and intimate settings in Northern Thailand. We visit and practice yoga at local temples, national parks and waterfalls, stay with host families for several nights and enjoy the company of our local Thai community!
