Book of the Month

October 1st, 2010

October’s book is Rick Hanson’s Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of happiness, love and wisdom. As the title suggests, Dr Hanson has combined research on the brain at peace with his understanding of the Buddhist Dharma and practice based on his many years of meditation.  I found the neuroscience intriguing and his practical guided mediations calming.  Our brains change depending on which thoughts we react to and those we simply watch.  With a heart full of wisdom and a mind quiet enough to hear, the brain creates new neuro pathways that override the older, more harmful channels in which our habits are stored.  Let us know what you think about this book.
